Not sure which environmental permits to investigate for your business? Start with what your facility does. Lolium Ecosearch offers a public NAICS lookup for an initial screening, with a separate signed-in search for more detailed guidance.
1. Open the free U.S. permit lookup
Follow the link below to the public NAICS lookup. This initial lookup does not require an account or a credit card. It is a preliminary screening, not a complete facility-specific compliance determination. Daily usage limits are displayed by the tool.
2. Enter your NAICS code or business activity
Enter a NAICS code if you know it, or describe the business in plain English, such as food manufacturing or auto body repair. Select the English language option if the page opens in Portuguese.
Choose the activity actually carried out at the facility. Industry classification is a starting point: processes, emissions, wastewater, waste quantities and storage conditions may change which requirements apply.
3. Select “Check permits” and review the screening
The lookup returns a short list of potentially relevant federal permitting programs with agency names and summaries. Treat these as topics to investigate, not confirmation that a permit is required or that the list is exhaustive.
If no programs match, do not assume your business is exempt. Try a more specific activity and confirm the result with the relevant agency. State and local requirements need separate attention.
4. Add your location in the detailed search
For the next step, open the U.S. environmental search. This page requires sign-in. Enter the facility's city and state, add its NAICS code if available, and select the regulatory levels and permit categories you want to investigate.
Use the location of the operation, rather than a remote owner's address. Review the credit or payment requirement shown before generating or unlocking a detailed report. The full report and PDF are not included in the free public lookup.
5. Turn the result into questions for the agency
Write down which programs need confirmation, which activities triggered them and what information you still need to collect. Check official agency guidance before applying, constructing or operating.
Lolium Ecosearch provides automated informational guidance. It does not issue permits, guarantee approval, or replace a qualified environmental professional or legal advice. Start with the free screening and decide whether you need a deeper review.
Can I start without knowing my NAICS code?
Yes. The public lookup accepts a business activity description as well as a NAICS code.
Is the entire report free?
No. The public NAICS lookup is a free preliminary screening with usage limits. The separate detailed U.S. search requires sign-in and displays its credit or payment requirements.
Does the lookup cover every state and local requirement?
No. The initial lookup focuses on potentially relevant federal programs. Location-specific requirements must be investigated separately and confirmed with the relevant agency.
